Fringed Parnassia

Genus Parnassia
Saxifrage Family (Saxifragaceae)

Fringed Parnassia
(Grass of Parnassus)
Parnassia fimbriata

This plant is usually found along the banks of streams, or in boggy shady areas. The fringed petals are quite distinctive, and unlike any other flowers you may find. The plant is short (less than a foot tall), but the flowers are almost an inch across.

The name Parnassia is from a mountain in Greece. The species name fimbriata means "fringed".
