Hidden Hollow -- Salt Lake County, Utah
(along Parley's Creek in Sugarhouse)
This area, within the city block just west of the old prison, was the original Sugar House Park.
But by 1985 it had become a dumping ground. There were plans to build large businesses and warehouses here. Parley's Creek was to be covered and used as a parking lot.
In 1990, students from a Salt Lake City elementary school found the area while on a field trip. They thought that it should be restored as a natural park in the middle of the busy urban area. Through their persistence, and with help from local officials and friends, Hidden Hollow was redesigned to be an outdoor classroom for students of all ages.
