Grama Grass

Genus Bouteloua
Grass Family (Poaceae/Graminae)

Blue Grama Grass
(Bouteloua gracilis)

This grass is an important range species. It spreads by runners or underground stems. It forms sod, often in a ring shape.

It usually grows about 12 inches tall. The seeds form along only one side of the seed head, which curls as the seeds ripen and dry out. One reference said that this curled seed head looks like eyelashes.
