Dogbane Family (Apocynaceae)

Amsonia blossom and buds
-- near Lake Powell, Garfield County, Utah

(Amsonia tomentosa)

This plant is called Blue-Star in some books, which is a fittingly descriptive name. The flowers are star shaped and pale blue -- almost white on some plants. They look a lot like phlox blossoms. There are usually many flowers on each small (about a foot high) plant. It grows in sandy soil in the Colorado River drainage area.
