Alfalfa

Genus Medicago
Pea Family (Fabaceae/Leguminosae)

Alfalfa
(Medicago sativa)

This plant is widely cultivated to produce hay for feeding livestock, but it also grows wild along our roadsides and ditchbanks.

It is native to the Middle East, but was introduced to this country by Spanish colonists.
